1. The Meeting
You have finally met the artist with whom you will finalise a project that has been close to your heart? Wonderful! You met on social networks, by phone, on zoom, and you made enthusiastic plans? Good for you.
Now, what happens if you have disagreements in the making of your work?
I suggest to prepare a memorandum of understanding summarising all points discussed and agreed upon.
2. Some examples of points to be clarified:
-
What tasks will be carried out and by whom?
-
What is the deadline for handing over the work to the other?
-
Do you want changes to be made to each other's contributions, how quickly do you need to communicate your proposals to each other, and does one of you have the final say?
-
How will you share the copyright on the final work?
-
If you have costs, how will you share these expenses?
This obliges you to discuss, from the start of a collaboration, not only the points of agreement but also the methods to be used in the event that you disagree. This is not easy, but it will allow you to start on the right footing and guarantee your work and your project the best success!
